A 3 Star, 6’5” shooting guard. That’s a great pickup for Santa Clara. Sounds like a good kid and a good player. I wonder how much Herb and Julius Hodge flexed their NC State experience during recruitment. In any event, welcome to SCU, Trey!

“The school is beautiful, they’re building a new training facility…”

oh really?

on October 23, 2017

Heheh. I see what you did there.

on October 24, 2017

Why the sour vibe toward the proposed athletic facility?

It took years for the new Law School to come to fruition and now it is under construction.  That is exciting.

They are committed to building the STEM Center for SCU students.  That will not be in use for years with fundraising, planning, permitting, construction, and furnishings.  That is exciting.

The athletic facility will happen and I would say will be done sooner than the STEM center.  That is exciting as well.

My mother always taught me if you cannot say something nice, don’t say anything at all.

I think you may have missed the humor here. He’s referencing the Insider post that said the training facility wasn’t getting off the ground anytime soon because of a lack of fundraising, but if they’re using it as a selling point to recruits, then they must have a pretty aggressive timeline to see it completed and *believe* that they have the financial means lined up to see it to completion.

Unless I’m the idiot here…

on October 24, 2017

PM’s right. Nashty was very much pro-training facility in response to that Insider post. And then, what do you know, this solid recruit mentions the new facility as something he’s excited about–highlighting that, hey!, maybe the training facility *is* going to help bring in recruits.

I agree.

I suppose I had two points-

  1. There must be some teeth to the practice facility thing, farther ahead of schedule than we perhaps thought.
  2. It already helped us get a recruit rated higher than normal in a part the country (Mid-Atlantic/Marginal South) where we almost never get any recruits.

If the money is there, build the facility. It can literally only help, unless it puts us in some deep financial hole when it comes to other things (assistants, scheduling, recruiting budget). I doubt they would do it if that were the case, so build it.

The high academic, private Universities I have visited that have blown me away in terms of campuses- Stanford, Duke, Vandy, Wake Forest- have the feeling of ample space and borderline superfluous buildings and facilities.

I’m for SCU acquiring and tearing down as much of the surrounding suburban neighborhood within historical acceptability. The cramped campus, while beautiful, has always felt Triple A rather than big league. If the practice facility replaces the tennis courts, and the tennis courts are moved to some other piece of land adjacent to the U and the campus grows, I’m all for it.

All good.  Thanks for clarifying.

Awesome get.

Also appreciate the fact that grades won’t likely be an issue.

Welcome Trey!
Love this signing, tall guard who can play multiple positions.
And agree w/ others on the academics, good to see some recruits that shine both on and off the court.
Hopefully Sendek and nab at least one true post in this class to replace Ndumanya.

Not about to declare egg on my face on the practice facility thing, but I did have a chuckle at my expense.
