67-64 Broncos

Portland has played better better since we last played them. They’re 4-4 in last 8 games incl 2pt losses to USF and UOP last week. SCU is 3-5 over the same period.
If we play as we did vs. USD we’ll win, play one of our mediocre clunkers and Portland wins.

no Hauser means more KH. not looking forward to him standing in the corner and making unaggressive drives across the line away from the basket for 30 min!

Broncos hang tight, but lose a close one. 69-64

Not sure if anyone mentioned it previously, but Hauser has been playing with a foot injury for most of the season (prior to the injury sustained a few weeks ago ).  If he’s still out maybe it’s a good thing in disguise in that it has given both of his injuries time to heal…. just trying to find some silver lining.

I’ll go with our Broncos in a close one SCU 60 Port 59

A game worth watching if you missed it….ball movement was crisp, Big E had a career night, KJ facilitated, and Vrankic was fantastic both shooting and attacking. Definitely the most aesthetically pleasing offensive game of the year. Even though Portland was up 2 at halftime, I felt confident because it seemed our guys were consistently getting better looks at the basket than the Pilots.

Does anyone know the last game the Broncos won where the majority of points cane from the front court? It has to be at least a decade. Maybe a John Bryant team, but probably even before that. Crazy good game by E and Josip.

Agree with BroncoBob.  Worth watching and the best all around offense of the season for SCU last night.  Although I’m not a friend/fan of Terry Porter, he did the right thing last night.  With box and 1 and face guarding of KJ Portland looked to take the scoring out of KJ’s hands and force the rest of the Broncos to beat them.  Thankfully, that’s just what SCU did. If SCU continues in that manner. it could make for an interesting WCC tourney for our Broncos.

It would be nice if they could continue to do this tomorrow against Pacific. Pacific has changed places with San Diego, who has fallen from grace lately. Very tough seeing SCU winning at Stockton, but a repeat performance would likely seal a win and a first game tournament bye. As others have mentioned, great game by E and Vrankic Looks like some switch might have come on Ndumanya…hope he can keep it up. Just an all around really good game from all of the Broncos. Don’t know if this is just “settling” for wins against the lower half of the WCC, or if this is an improving team, irrespective of the competition. I’m leaning to the latter.

Is Roche still in the picture, or has he been de-selected by the apparent big man recruits for next year?

I think Roche RS’d

Roche redshirted last season. Has played this year but only in garbage time. Not sure what the future holds for him.

Midwest, 92B…thx. Sounds like he might self-select out. Hope he stays and gets better, he’s one of Sendek’s guys  (???)

Roche…yes, Sendek recruit along w/ Akil Douglas in 1st year and left. Didn’t expect much in terms of
recruiting success in that 1st year but would have been nice if one of them contributed a little. In his brief garbage time stints Roche seems to have some low post skills and shooting touch….doesn’t appear to have earned Sendek’s trust yet….suspect he’s either lost in terms of off/def schemes or soft on D or boards and presumably being outplayed by E and Jadersten in practice.

Very solid win.  Vrankic could turn out to be really solid as he matures and gets stronger.

Nice win last night.  Great ball movement to take what the D gave them often resulting in close buckets for big E or unguarded 3’s for Vrankic.  In the something you don’t often dept, he went like airball 3, three made 3’s in a row, then airball 3.

On defense Kai worked his tail off chasing shooters off 2-3 screens and being in their face when they got the ball.  His effort on D was something to see.

Rode the starting 5.  Only 7 guys played and Pugh 7 minutes, Jadersten 5 minutes, the starters played all the rest.

Good to see Vrankic knocked down some 3’s. Prior to USD game last week, he had been struggling from 3’s, low 20% range for WCC play…not good. Hopefully he can show a little more consistency from deep over the remainder of the season…aside from the direct benefit, it will open up driving opportunities for him even more w/ defender closing out more aggressively to contest 3’s. And while he’s not an elite athlete he’s crafty when attacking the basket, can finish in a variety of ways and passes well if help D collapses on him.
