Thoughts?

Any thoughts on the baseball team? They can’t pitch, hit or field. Seem to blow leads when they get them and the overall feel of the program seems to be poor. Thoughts?

Not much of a thought…but, they’re really bad. Need a big change, don’t know about the admin’s concern. I went to a talk with the coach a couple of years ago ( who did well @ D-II UC San Diego), but this is abysmal. Don’t know if the admin has a Sendek mentality for change, but that’s what the school needs. I’m guessing the recruits are just not D-I competitive. Just more lost in the wilderness for the Scarlet Heroes of the Alameda.

When you score 6,7 and 8 runs and lose all three, it’s the pitching not the hitting.  Don’t know if the internal dynamics are bad with new coach from Baylor overseeing HC but the Broncos can’t beat anyone,  very demoralizing for a program that once was quite good.  Where is the “Hogman” Sal Taormina?  Those were the days.

Poor bullpen is the killer.

I’ve found it interesting that for how bad the teams have been overall, the program seems to be churning out decent MLB draftees. Just in the past couple years:

Mitchell White (2016, 2nd round)

Matt Kuhns (2016, 21st round)

Stevie Berman (2016, 31st round)

Jose Vizcaino Jr. (2015, 7th round)

Reece Karalus (2015, 8th round)

Cresto and Nnebe have solid chances of being drafted when eligible, too

O’brien’s first real recruiting class included Karalus and Vizcaino…obviously some of the later picks mean less, but somewhat astonishing to even have guys drafted given the overall performance of the team in recent years. Seems like the coaching staff does a decent job at identifying some potential/talent every class, but has a huge drop off after the few top guys.
