Outstanding….welcome Zeke!
We desperately need to get bigger and more athletic and he seems to fit the bill on both counts.
Not a ton of info or videos available out there but sounds like he’s somewhat new to hoops and grew late. IMO, those ‘late growers’ are a good thing….they grow up at a more normal height w/ better coordination instead of the big kid who’s always been huge and struggled to have his coordination catch up to his height.
And somewhat interesting…there’s more video of him playing lacrosse than hoops…not a bad thing, probably means he has decent mobility and eye/hand coordination.
The limited video on him is all brief catch and finish dunks, and a post up, drop step dunk. Good news on the catch and finish dunks is he appears to catch cleanly on the move and quickly elevates….compared to Big E who needs to take time to gather himself (slowly) before elevating.
Looks like a really good prospect for this level. Hopefully they’re still after Otchere. But wow the team is going to be different next year, at least 6 newcomers.
It’s a shame Ndumanya didn’t have more time with this coaching staff. It took Eric Boateng like 2 1/2 years to finally click in but once he did he was effective, and he was basically worthless when he came in at ASU.
Otchere….yes, will be interesting to see how that plays out. On paper, all 13 schollies are now spoken for w/ Richards verbal but i suspect there’ll be at least one departure (I have my guess but i’ll refrain from speculating).
Otchere and Richards make-up and skill sets are similar, Otchere is 2 years older, in college for 2 years so he might be more prepared to contribute right away. Maybe the staff want both or maybe they were hedging in offering both, hoping/expecting to get one.
Otchere is a shotblocking machine in a good JUCO conference. Limited offensively but can erase shots. I would imagine he can give guys like Gonzaga’s Williams and Landale at least some problems.
Otchere appears to be off the table, Verbal Commits no longer listing SCU as a possible destination.
Too bad, he looked like a heck of an athlete and shot blocker.
No idea if we backed off (after signing Edwards???) or if he simply narrowed his list and eliminated us.
Eager to see how this offseason plays out. I’d be a bit surprised if the roster is set as is, i’d expect at least 1 transfer out opening a spot for another recruit.
