Kid out of Uruguay. 6’9″ and played on the National Team. Just committed.
Must be Juan Ducasse who’s listed as a 2018 recruit of ours on Verbal Commits.
6-9, 200lbs playing at Lee Academy, Maine prep school.
Google him and check out Vimeo video, i’m having tech difficulties w/ my phone so sorry for no link.
Looks like a face the basket, skilled 4. Appears to be solid shooter with very good passing and ball handling skills for a 6-9 kid. Decent athlete but as you can guess from his weight, needs to add a little strength/muscle. Given his build will prob never weigh more than 220ish.
Seems like a similar skill set as a Vrankic. Glad to have a verbal from a taller kid capable of playing the 4.
here’s the video. https://vimeo.com/175287095
First off: on the unintentional comedy scale, this things scores a 99. What the hell is going on with the robots?! Or the giant sniper scope indicator?
I have no idea what you can glean from 3×3 basketball. Maybe a RS, let him fill out a little bit?
Should be noted that Shaq Walters also came out of Lee Academy.
It seems, to me, that having experience in a national team/academy setting is pretty good for development, in addition to the prep school.
The video has some unintentional comedy value, but those venues looks like someone gives a rip about what’s going on. So often our recruits highlight videos have them wearing a jersey #263 on one of six courts divided by screens with all sorts of whistles blowing. This looks a lot more structured.
that said, hope of a “true post” mentioned by many seem to have gone unrequited. He looks like a talented/potential guy who needs to add some weight, but has a bigger skill set that an back-to-the-basket 6’9″+ guy.
The WCC is a largely below the rim league. I like this guy.
Class complete then!
Ducasse is definitely not a low post guy (off or def) at least not at this stage.
We have 5 scholly slots available for 18/19 (more if anyone transfers) so still at least 1 slot open. I’ll continue to maintain we need a true big to replace Ndumanya and to guard the likes of Landale when the situation calls for it. Either a wide body, 235lbs+, or a long, athletic shot blocker type but bottom line is they need to be able to defend the paint, rebound, etc. May or may not happen this Fall, could be Spring signee, JC or grad transfer….don’t care how or when it happens but I think it’s a glaring hole for 18/19 and beyond that needs to filled.
