NCAA cash payout

Interesting news on the financial side of things, the NCAA is liquidating some sort of fund and all D-1 schools are going to benefit.

Long story short, the richest schools are getting the biggest payouts because its based on number of scholarships but even SCU is going to receive 300,000 dollars. The only school receiving less is Gonzaga which makes me laugh.

I believe every school in the WCC shares money from the amount league teams are paid in the NCAA tournament.  With St Marys playing two games and Gonzaga reaching the elite 8 and maybe the final 4, money this year should be a nice bonus for all the schools.  It will be nice when SCU can pitch in and contribute to the cause or ” the Coz”.

this is true but the money I’m referring to up top is coming from a separate NCAA (slush) fund of some sort. The only stipulation with the money above is that it can’t go to athletic performance enhancing causes (weight room, coaching salaries, athletic facility improvements). It can go to life enhancing stuff for student athletes. This Marquette blog did a decent job sketching it out and I really like the idea of a dedicated nutritionist on staff.

I understand the differentiation.  Thanks for the link and I see SCU gets $301,000.  Interesting how the NCAA could have so much extra money lying around. I wonder how they determined the amounts sch school gets.
